What do organizers do?
A professional organizer provides training, focus, inspiration and experience to help you organize information, time and spaces.

People often procrastinate about organizing because they don't know where to start, need an extra set of hands, have trouble staying focused or cannot be objective about their own space and possessions. An organizer provides what's missing.

All organizers operate their businesses differently. Many work alone but some may have employees to do the physical work. If you hire someone who belongs to the National Association of Professional Organizers (www.napo.net) or the National Study Group on Chronic Disorganization (www.nsgcd.org) you can expect a high degree of professionalism, courtesy and ethical treatment.

Organizers often specialize in different areas--information management such as filing systems and workflow analysis, training by seminars or by individual, or residential situations.

Why should I hire an organizer?
There are lots of benefits to hiring an organizer! The job goes faster, it's more fun, you stay focused, you get the benefit of experience and education, ideas are shared and habit changes are more likely to take hold.

                               Unfinished business = stress

Indecision = stress

Unasked questions = stress

What should I expect?
The more openly you can describe what you want or need the more efficiently an organizer can serve you. Of course, if you're unsure what improvements can be made, just ask for ideas.

You can expect an organizer to listen to your concerns, ask questions to help clarify the situation and provide business details such as rates, hours of work, expectations  and other services.

To think about: Is the initial consultation free or for a fee? On the phone, by email or in person? Do you want someone to offer suggestions and then do the physical work yourself? Do you want someone to work along side you, or do you want to turn the situation over to someone else completely? Do you need or want ongoing maintenance help? Are there cancellation charges? Travel charges? Parking charges, phone or email charges?

Consider what you want to pay to hire an organizer, but more importantly consider the peace-of-mind and exhilaration that comes from tackling and completing areas that cause stress everyday. Ease and efficiency are priceless! If you feel calmer, gain free time, improve your credit rating and credibility, keep your mate, lead your kids, impress your boss, inspire your employees--what's it worth to you?

Typical client questions:

I don't understand computer filing and my email is a mess.
On-site individual training or workshops provide Mastery Consulting to manage your information.

Do I have to do it all myself, or can I get help? I've got all the books, but still can't make it happen.
Onsite assistance is the best way to get things done.

I have ADHD and need constant help.
Not a problem at all. Many Mastery Consulting clients prefer ongoing assistance and coaching, some on a regular basis, some simply as the need arises.

Mastery Consulting doesn't operate in my area, what can I do?
Consultations by phone about time management, filing, prioritizing, decision making and decluttering spaces (by picture) are possible.  Ask.

What does an organizer expect from clients?
The same as clients expect from an organizer: reliable, confidential, dedicated and honest effort and for everyone to enjoy themselves.

I worked with an organizer before and the methods taught didn't work for me.
Both the organizer and the client have a stake in making things work. Clear communication is key. Organizational improvement is a process.
